Audience

The audience we are aiming to target will be males and females ranging from 15-24 who are interested in the Thriller genre. We would hope to have our filmed classified as a 15 as there will be uses of strong language and violence, it would not fit an 18 classification as the language and violence is not that frequent. Classifying our film under the BBFC rating 15, would help tackle a key sub group of our audience, Students. Our film could be shown on special student nights and would attract this age bracket of 15-24. The strong language will be fairly frequent as the film develop and strong, bloody violence will be shown this all comes under the 15 rating.

Our film would fit into the cross genre of Psychological/Thriller this has seen to be a popular genre recently with films the Inception, Shutter Island and Donnie Darko. The difference with ‘Exchange’ is that it has an element of Art house, the filming, soundtrack and ambience in the film will be not so typical this will attract the niche market of art house which has got seemingly popular year by year. Having this almost underlying arthouse tone, will also add to the style on this film which the market will pick up on. Our main character is 17 so this may attract a slightly younger audience rather than older, the film will be British made so many locations and events will happen in places where a British audience will recognise. The middle class family allows the generation up (25-40) to also enjoy and relate to the film. The general feel for the film will be quite British attracting anyone interested in British culture to the film. Our film will include elements of German/European culture and would maybe have parts film in Germany, this will give a good presence in German/European cinema's. The fact our film is strictly Euopean cast and made will enhance the viewing status across countries such as France, Sweden and Spain. The location of London will be clearly shown and filmed in our film, giving the European audience more to relate to as London is classed 'the capital of Europe', and English is the most widely spoken second language.

Exchange Plot

Exchange Thomos Jager is a 17 year old exchange student practising English in his German college, he has been given the opportunity to stay with a British family for a week in London. The Family consist of a father (John) and mother (Susanna) and their son who is apparently away on a school field trop for the week he is staying with them, he is also 17 called Theo Whites. Thomos arrives at the seemingly normal family’s house when he notices weird occurrences, the mother is strangely quiet and he feels as if he is being spied on. He settles in while noticing that Theo’s belongings and life seem to be non existent. More and more small things point towards the disappearance of Theo, the family become more absurd and strange around Thomos, he feels as if he is being judged and watched. He start to settle in and the conversations with the family are worded in a way that makes the viewer question where Theo is. Thomos over the days finds more about the life and about Theo. The family force him to go on a winters walk with him, this is very awkward and the parents follow him whilst whispering about him- he knows something is up. John and Susanne start to groom him in their past child, they start to go insane and call him by the name Theo, Thomos is trapped in an alien environment and cant escape. One night he hears the mother crying and screaming he is incredibly unsettled. One day he is taken to the hair dresser where the mother points to a photo of Theo and gets the hair dresser to give him the same cuts, this is very sickening and Thomos is now in emotional pain. Thomos whilst the mother is out, looks around the house and comes across a large envelope entitled ‘our son’ there are endless photos of Theo’s childhood and he comes across photos of horrible abusive photos of Theo, being tied down, hit and scolded. This is an emotional scene as the last photo is Thomos’s passport photo; he breaks down with the photo in his hands. It is Thomos’s last night, where he spies on the parents and over hears them talking about the accidental death of their child and how it was Susanne’s fault. This evening Thomos can’t sleep and everything is driving him crazy. On his last morning he sees John dropping a strange brown liquid into his cereal before it is handed over, he knows he is going to be drugged through the evidence in the photos he has seen. Thomos doesn’t accept it, they force him to have it -shouting at him calling him Theo, he runs whilst the British parents are trying to grasp him. He runs to his room, where he grabs his money, day bag and German passport and is chased from the house, with the parents screaming and crying in desperation. There is a running scene of Thomos following his initial route to the Whites house back to the train station. He goes on a journey back to the airport; he is exhausted, beaten and stressed he waits at the front desk to desperately get a flight back to Germany. He is in a complete state when he gets the front desk, he is asked for his passport and when he pulls it out the name reads ‘Theo Whites’ not Thomos Jager we then hear a cry from the main character. The viewer is left with a shot of Thomos stuck in this airport environment; the audience are left with thoughts of confusion to what was real and what wasn’t. BJH

The Film Industry

The Film Industry Homework 1. Angelina Jolie brings sex and sense of a dominating women to lead role. She is seen as a female role model and pin up for men. She brings a huge cult following in the Brangelina saga and her previous films also underline her such a the sexy role of tomb raider. 2.Fairly Recently i went to the premier of Machotaildrop winner of the canadian film festival its was not internationally released in cinema's as it was a fairly small independant skateboarding film. The tickets were sold in an independant shop. I heard about the film a two months before i got tickets through word of mouth, from that i visited the film webiste and watched the trailer many times. Also quite a while back I saw Paranormal Activity in the cinema, usually I would have downloaded this but due to the trailers where it is promoted as 'a new experience' for horror movies I was more than tempted. In my opinion the film lived up to the hype and it was really worth seeing a film like that in a cinema for the full 'horror' effect, as when I watched it on small screen I could casually watch it. 3. blair witch budget: $20,000 to $25,000 had been spent. blair witch profit: $140,539,099 Paranormal Activity budget:$15,000 Paranormal Activity profit:$193,298,009 Avatar budget:$237 million Avatar profit: more than $2 billion 4. Harry brown- Matthew Vaughn Kris Thykier Matthew Brown Keith Bell Scouting book for boys-Ivana MacKinnon Nowhere boy-Robert Bernstein Douglas Rae An education- Finola DwyerAmanda PoseyDouglas HansenWendy JaphetJamie LaurensonCaroline LevyJames D. Stern David M. Thompson Slumdog millionaire- Celador FilmsFilm4 Film production has become far bigger and more expensive since the 1990's, there for producing less British only films (which is very rare). The gap between a British block buster and independant film has grown larger and larger over the years, and some indie's have found a cult following and done very well for them selves. 5. Slumdog millionaire soundtrack became a number 1 on the us billboard charts knocking off GAGA on the top spot, it was composed by A.R.Rahman wh9 had no idea he would of made such a huge success out of his music composures and choices. It also picked up many awards at ceremonies for best soundtrack, most famously pussycat dolls collaborated with Rahman for a terrible remake of Jaiho- which charted and sold very well internationally. 500 days of summer also did well as a soundtrack featuring the indie/rock sounds of the temper trap, mumm-ra and of course the smiths this went down incredibly well with it specialized audience and charted in many countries, also heavily advertised. One particular song from a film that also did well was 'three best friends' sung by the actor in the film Zach Galifianakis which sold as a single and was preformed at the mtv music awards, this truely shows the convergence between music and film. 6. Lionsgate has contantly tried to stay out of the blindingly obvious mainstream although managing time after time to succeed such as the films Saw and oscar winning Crash. It has managed to work with many types of film and other converging companies such a the art film Girl with a pearl earing to barbie dvd's and programmes.
