The Film Industry

The Film Industry Homework 1. Angelina Jolie brings sex and sense of a dominating women to lead role. She is seen as a female role model and pin up for men. She brings a huge cult following in the Brangelina saga and her previous films also underline her such a the sexy role of tomb raider. 2.Fairly Recently i went to the premier of Machotaildrop winner of the canadian film festival its was not internationally released in cinema's as it was a fairly small independant skateboarding film. The tickets were sold in an independant shop. I heard about the film a two months before i got tickets through word of mouth, from that i visited the film webiste and watched the trailer many times. Also quite a while back I saw Paranormal Activity in the cinema, usually I would have downloaded this but due to the trailers where it is promoted as 'a new experience' for horror movies I was more than tempted. In my opinion the film lived up to the hype and it was really worth seeing a film like that in a cinema for the full 'horror' effect, as when I watched it on small screen I could casually watch it. 3. blair witch budget: $20,000 to $25,000 had been spent. blair witch profit: $140,539,099 Paranormal Activity budget:$15,000 Paranormal Activity profit:$193,298,009 Avatar budget:$237 million Avatar profit: more than $2 billion 4. Stern David M. Thompson Slumdog millionaire- Celador FilmsFilm4 Film production has become far bigger and more expensive since the 1990's, there for producing less British only films (which is very rare). The gap between a British block buster and independant film has grown larger and larger over the years, and some indie's have found a cult following and done very well for them selves. 5. Slumdog millionaire soundtrack became a number 1 on the us billboard charts knocking off GAGA on the top spot, it was composed by A.R.Rahman wh9 had no idea he would of made such a huge success out of his music composures and choices. It also picked up many awards at ceremonies for best soundtrack, most famously pussycat dolls collaborated with Rahman for a terrible remake of Jaiho- which charted and sold very well internationally. 500 days of summer also did well as a soundtrack featuring the indie/rock sounds of the temper trap, mumm-ra and of course the smiths this went down incredibly well with it specialized audience and charted in many countries, also heavily advertised. One particular song from a film that also did well was 'three best friends' sung by the actor in the film Zach Galifianakis which sold as a single and was preformed at the mtv music awards, this truely shows the convergence between music and film. 6. Lionsgate has contantly tried to stay out of the blindingly obvious mainstream although managing time after time to succeed such as the films Saw and oscar winning Crash. It has managed to work with many types of film and other converging companies such a the art film Girl with a pearl earing to barbie dvd's and programmes.
